History is a gallery of pictures in which
there are few originals and many copies.

Brown Ink Design started the creative journey in 2001 when it opened its doors in Ballarat. Managing Director Rodney Brown started initially working from home but had always envisioned his business being based in a historical commercial building not far from the Ballarat CBD. Later in 2001 a building was found and the renovations began. Nine months later the new studio was opened and a dream was realised.

Each year saw the team grow and the client base increase. In 2007 the business expanded to the quickest growing area in regional Victoria and opened a studio in Torquay. By this stage the Brown Ink team had rapidly grown and the client base had become national with clients scattered throughout all states.

Since 2001 we have witnessed many changes within our industry. The biggest has been the growth of the digital marketing industry. As businesses realised the Yellow Pages phone book no longer worked, they soon discovered how important it was to be online.

While we have built websites since our inception, since 2010 the website side of our business has expanded significantly. Digital marketing technology changes so often that in order to educate all Brown Ink staff more effectively, it was decided in late 2014 to merge the Torquay and Ballarat studios. The main objective was to bring all designers and developer knowledge under one roof, in order to reduce the double handling of information and help the sharing of knowledge.

In 2017 we moved into a much big studio space, a refurbished warehouse in Torquay. We love our new space and so do our clients.

In 2018 because of the great work Megan McPherson our Regional Manager of the Ballarat and Bendigo area was doing, we reopened a studio in Ballarat. The need to be physically in Ballarat more was required to service our growing list of clients in the area.

The future holds much promise and excitement as we absorb the ever changing world of marketing and design. We look forward to helping businesses find their marketing voice.
