Case Study :: GORGE Chocolates
Brown Ink has had a successful history of working with confectionery businesses. GORGE Chocolates was purchased by new owners who wanted to update their logo, packaging and all other marketing material.

THE CHALLENGE
The new owners of GORGE Chocolates thought they knew what they wanted in their new logo. Melanie had worked with another design agency and had been disheartened by what they had presented. She felt they had not listened and had designed what they liked completely disregarding her suggestions.
Our process doesn’t allow this to happen, we work with our clients to understand what they require. We need to understand their business objectives and what they find appealing. Once we have these answers we can start the creative process.
THE SOLUTION
GORGE Chocolates wanted to retain the illustration in some shape or form. They are based not far from the 12 Apostles and felt it was important to keep a connection with their region. Given they get so much tourist traffic it made sense to keep it.
The new logo needed to have a contemporary twist on an “old world” theme. The logo was to also form the main component of the packaging. Once an illustration style and colours were decided upon, we were able to put together many concepts to find a solution.
We went through about 30 to 40 variations on the chosen logo, but the process was worth it. The result is a logo which can stand alone and also work comfortable as a label on packaging. Not many logos can achieve this.
THE OUTCOME
The result is a brand that now reflects the premium quality of their home made products. The brand pays homage to the Great Ocean Road region and has a boutique feel which has been received extremely well by GORGE Chocolate customers.
Our client were extremely happy with the results and enjoyed being involved in the creative process. Melanie and Jason from GORGE Chocolates trust our ideas and recommendations without the worry of thinking Brown Ink are purely out to design for themselves.
